Love is celebrating birthdays.

This is my baby when he was 2 years old. I remember this day like it was yesterday. Timmy and I just moved to Philadelphia, we were living in a huge white walled apartment in Bryn Mawr and we were adjusting to life as a “law school family”. I had P-L-E-N-T-Y of time with just my baby and me.
Our days were filled with trips to the library, grocery store, snack time, tv time, reading time, singing time, play time…. and so on. Jack was my buddy, my best friend. At times it felt like he was my only friend, but I was happy with that.
When Jack first came into this world he looked up at me with his big blue eyes and he didn’t make a sound. He just stared at me, peacefully. At the time I had no idea how much love I had for that little baby. The moment I held him, he felt natural in my arms. It was just the beginning of our friendship.
7 months after he was born our little family moved to London. Timmy was in school all day and in the evenings he was busy with his homework. Jack truly was my
anchor. Now how on earth is a 7 month going to be your anchor? It must be a gift from God, because that boy never gave me a reason to get upset. He hardly cried, always slept, took naps on time ate his food… silly things that can really really throw off a mom when they don’t run smoothly. Jack and I walked everyday around the city. We went to museums, libraries, play groups, played at the parks, ate lunch in the squares, did plenty of people watching… he was my best little buddy and never complained. He learned to walk in Russell Square, just up the street from where our flat was. We’d go sit by the fountain and watch the water fall to the ground, Jack would clap and wave to every person that walked by. There was hardly a moment when we were apart.
Today Jack is turned 5. He is wild, and full of energy. Not quite like his peaceful quiet days! His head touches my elbow when he stands next to me. He loves music, loves to dance, asks a million questions, he’s totally into Star Wars, Power Rangers and anything else that has to do with violent fighting and high packed action moves (sigh… really wish this wasn’t so!), he builds train track after train track until he gets the “perfect” one, he loves his little brother and plays the BIG brother role quite well.
Jack will always hold a special place in my heart. He has no idea what a strength he was to me when I would feel so a lone, being so far away from family, living in new places and adjusting to being a Mom. I feel blessed and am so grateful to my creator for letting me take care of this beautiful spirit.
Jack seems to be so grown up, at times I have to laugh because I can’t believe that we are holding a real conversation. I can’t wait to see this little boy keep on growing and developing into the amazing person I know he is. I love you Jackie-boy!
xoxo,
Momma
