Matt's Birthday

May 24th, 2010 Classmate Blogs No comments

Matt had a very exciting birthday filled with many surprises! His brother, Sam, and his wife found out that they are having their fourth baby girl in July. This was me tending their girls while they were at the Doctor’s.

He got a very nice set of Callaway golf clubs (thanks to my brother, no we are not made of money) that he has loved. We also went to dinner at Red Robin with Sam and his family. I went to the YW activity that night and so we had his favorite cake from a little dessert shop when I got home.

That same day Todd rode in the forward facing car seat for the first time and he also started walking! I am going to spare you having to watch the very long video I took, but believe me it was good!

there's no place like home

February 1st, 2010 Classmate Blogs No comments

We made the big move on Saturday.  Marc couldn't get the day off because he had to ask for Wednesday off to be with his brother (see previous post).  Thanks to the Elders Quorum and lots of family and friends we got the move done in just under 2 hours!  It helped that we were just moving down the street, but still that must be a record time.  We still have some odds and ends at the old place along with some cleaning to do but other than that we are officially in our new place.  Now I have the task of putting it all back together.  Even though our new place is the same floor plan it has still been a challenge to make things fit in just the right spot.  It only took 30 minutes of squabbling until we agreed upon the couch placement.  The biggest accomplishment thus far is that I organized the medicine cabinet.  It was out of control.  Instead of food storage I have drug storage.  You name it, I probably have it in there.  Ok, back on subject basically we are settling in and hopefully our lives will get back to normal here soon.  And hopefully this will be the last move for a while!

Among his other ridiculous talents, my baby brother is a phenomenal dancer and last night we went to his high school to check him out: (Schovy, you’re going to love this!)

(if you don’t know my brother, he’s the one who looks like he’s having a really good time…)

Fall Break in Bethlehem

October 25th, 2009 Dan No comments

From the title you may have thought that I went on an exotic excursion to the middle east. I did go east, but not that far. I went to visit my brother John-David and his family in Bethlehem, PA, and my brother Rich and his family in Philadelphia. I thought it was a good time to get away since Pete isn’t around. So I used my moms awesome hook up to JetBlue and arrived in NY just in time for the Monday morning rush. Slightly overwhelming. I managed to get on a bus to Bethlehem and enjoyed the beautiful scenic route through Jersey and into PA. The fall colors were abundant as the cooler weather was setting in.

Bethlehem is a beautiful area with rolling hills, quaint victorian-style houses and plenty of open space. I mostly went to spend time with my family so we didn’t do tons of activities, and the day we tried to go to a Scarecrow Festival, my almost 2-yr. old niece puked a few times in the car on the way there warranting a return home. I did get to go tour the nearby fire station, see the highest paid teachers in the nation on strike for more money, help clean up some little kid “accidents,” saw Jocelyn in dance class, tour the Orthopedic area of St. Luke’s Hospital where John-David is doing his residency, and see where part of Transformers was filmed.
In Philly, I definitely tried a philly cheesesteak which was AMAZING! thanks Jenny! I also went to Independence Hall, saw the Liberty Bell, went to the Reading Terminal Market, drove through west Philly to count how many satellite dishes I could see on broke down row houses, and had a performance of “Annie” by Tabitha, another almost 2 yr old niece. It was awesome. I’m so glad I had time to go play. Next time I’ll have to take Pete and stay for longer! here are some pictures from the week.
And this is part of what I did all week…

Overlook of Bethlehem
who wouldn’t want this policeman to protect your family jewels?
who doesn’t love a bouncy pink horse? and yes that is a gynormous flower on my beanie
you would hope someone would be “in the mood” on their wedding day…

First Bike

September 13th, 2009 Classmate Blogs No comments

We bought Jack his very first bike this past week. He is still getting used to pedaling and getting on and off the bike. Frankly I think he’s scared to death when he rides, but he still loves it somehow. It helps that he is decked out in a Power Rangers helmet, elbow pads and knee pads. He is quite confident as soon as he has all his gear on. He’s only fallen once when he turned too quickly. He got up and scowled at me like it was my fault he fell. (I totally remember doing this to my brother when he tried to help me ride my bike.) Anyways, this is big at our house. Oh and we can’t forget that Calahan was about 10 times more excited about the bike than Jack was. He would have us sit him up on the bike and push him around. Jack just stared at the bike and wouldn’t come near it, but as you can see he eventually warmed up to the idea.

Football Friday

September 4th, 2009 Classmate Blogs No comments

Part of the reason that Kyle and I moved back to Utah this year is that it’s my brother’s senior year, so if we were ever going to witness his high school experience, it was now or never. Now that we’re back, Friday nights are football nights.

I went to football games in high school, but I didn’t really go to watch the game. The only time I was into it was when I was actually on the team as a medic, but since I preferred to work the practices and not the games (much less likely to have to deal with blood and guts at practices!) I didn’t even sit through a lot of those. So I wasn’t keen on going to all of Randy’s games. Happily, Randy’s games are a lot more interesting than ours ever were because these boys actually know what they’re doing.

Here’s a peek at some of last week’s action:

Calahan is TWO!

July 27th, 2009 Classmate Blogs No comments

Here is my birthday boy! Our Cal-Pal turned TWO on Sunday.
{somedays he has his fingers jammed in his mouth, somedays he doesn’t.This was a finger/mouth day}

CALAHAN AMERICA @ 2
This monkey LOVES life. He is the happiest little dude I know. He is always making us laugh by his silly actions. He loves to pivot when he dances, he loves to run around crazy with his brother, he yells, screams and blabbers like a mad man and somehow it’s cute, whenever he finds a treat he ALWAYS grabs two and gives one to Jack, he loves to watch Signing Time, he loves to color, he has a mad obsession with the bink and blank, he loves animals, he’s the only boy in the house who will eat a salad with me, he loves to read books and he loves singing Itsy Bitsy Spider, every crawling bug is “SPIDER!”, he can sniff out any sugar if it’s in the house, although he’s small he’s just as rough and tough as any boy, he calls me “mama” and gives me the best hugs and kisses. He never forgets to yell out “I love yoooo” when anyone walks out the door. I love my Cal! I simply can’t imagine life without him. Happy birthday my baby :)
Oh and I forgot to mention he loves trucks!
