Things like, “clean out the garage” and “go through all my decorations- toss/sort/re-box” and “move furniture around.” You know, little things like that.

I am now neck deep in all my scrapbooking supplies: sorting, tossing, cleaning up. I’m making great progress. But I’m now realizing, “why am I doing this right now?” Organizing my scrapbook supplies is not of great importance- but somehow I feel an urgency to do it. Then it hit me: NESTING.

Nesting has hit me like a Mack truck! According to BabyCenter, nesting is: A common indicator that labor is just around the corner is the sudden emergence of the nesting instinct. If you’re close to your due date and find yourself frantically cleaning out drawers and organizing cupboards, chances are labor will start within a few days. (Let’s just hope so, eh?)

Most of my nesting has involved making freezer meals, sorting and organizing rooms and toys, washing all of the baby clothes and putting them away and buying craft supplies for Lyvia. The craft supply thing is strange and really only makes sense to me. For some reason I think Lyvia will need to be busy with something while I’m caring for/sleeping with the new baby. And a two-year-old using glitter glue, construction paper, crayons and stickers fits this bill. Oh and I’m also obsessed with using the Magic Eraser on my kitchen cabinets.

I know- I’m nuts.
But isn’t that a nesting woman’s prerogative?

My friend went crazy with food storage when she was pregnant. She kept telling us that she felt this sense of urgency to get a years worth of food storage in the next two months. Another friend of mine actually repainted every room in her home at 7 months pregnant. Every. Room. Woah. I do remember being pregnant with Lyvia and scrubbing out drawers, applying new shelf paper, sanding and painting her dresser, vacuuming obsessively. So I shouldn’t be surprised it’s happening again. But it sorta is a relief that I’m not the only huge pregnant lady trying to haul trash bags and clean out cabinets.

Now, I’m off to bag up my 100 lb. donation to the MS Society. Wish me luck!
