This way he won't get me confused with his other girlfriend

Back when Justin first got my number, he didn’t know me very well. He got my number at [gasp!] church. Yes, you did just read that right. Think of every lame joke that has been made about LDS singles wards and apply it right there. I’m over it. Whatever.

So, when he got my number he put me in as “Natalie from church”. No, I did not know this at the time. Because FOR SURE I wouldn’t have let that slide. I would have reminded him of my last name and make him put heart emoticons after my name. Ok, I wouldn’t. That totally would have scared him off. Truth be told, I didn’t know he put me in his phone as “Natalie from church” until we had been dating about 2 months. I asked him why it was still listed as that and his response was typical. “Um, I just have never changed it.”

Typical boy.

So I asked him, “do you know my last name?” He promptly answered correctly and I gave him a kiss for passing the test. First test in a relationship, MUST KNOW GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIENDS LAST NAME. Whew! Glad he passed that one.

So, fast-forward 4 months to this last Friday night. We’re at a restaurant waiting for our food and I happen to be playing with Justin’s 1990s phone. I can barely figure out how the stupid thing works, but somehow, I manage to make it to his contact list. And low and behold, this is what I see:

Dating 6 months and I am still “Natalie from Church”. I told him I was going to change it immediately. But then, I just thought it was funny. And so I kept it.

However, I’ll quiz him every once and a while to make sure he remembers my last name.

Hi friends! Something crazy happened to my blog, I’ve lost all my links and my posts are all screwy. Please forgive the mess! I can’t figure out how to fix it, so alas, I am saying goodbye. I may be starting a new blog, if you would like the information please send me your name and email to legolady11@yahoo.com for an invite. AND if you have a blog please send me a link too! I have no idea how I’m going to get all those links again. Sigh, sorry for the craziness, hope to hear from you.

I can’t be bothered with dinner. Summer’s here!

“Mom!  I’m hungry!”  I glance up from my shovel and notice offspring belonging to me is standing nearby looking at me with indignation and, apparently, hunger pains.  “Um, okay.  Go fix a quesadilla.  Can you do that?”  “I don’t want a quesadilla.”  “Hmm, how about a hot dog?  Can you warm up a hot dog?”  Offspring nods happily and trots off toward the house.  I breathe an internal sigh of relief.  Problem solved.  And, I didn’t have to stop what I was doing, which was digging in the backyard.  I’m trying to cover up the hundreds of feet of pipe that makes up our sprinkling system.  It’s not easy work, and I when I get going I don’t like to be interrupted, especially for silly things like feeding my children.  Is it just me or do meal times seem much closer together in the summer?  Breakfast seems just a few moments ago and the children are hungry again.  Thank goodness for microwaves.  It’s a happy day indeed when your kids figure out how to read the numbers and push the buttons.  All I have to do is shout out instructions from the yard: “Push three, zero, then start!  The green button!  That’s the start button!”  There have been a few mishaps.  For example,  chicken nuggets cooked in the microwave for three minutes on one side are not nearly as edible as those that have been cooked for thirty seconds.  Also, my children quickly learned (to their fright and my amusement) that one must remove all silverware from the plate before putting it in the microwave.  It’s alright.  A few sparks and small sacrifice of a bit of  “meat” and breading is worth being able to work uninterrupted for a few hours outside.  Yes, I have decided that summer is here.  And no, I don’t want to hear from those of you suffering from OCD about June 21st technically being the beginning of summer.  And yes, I realize there were three inches of snow on the ground yesterday morning.  Nevertheless, summer is here.  Children attending school will soon be finished this week.  I have partaken of the first small harvest from our garden.  And, I let my children run amok and fend for themselves for meals while I happily scraped about in my rocky maze of sprinkler trenches.  All of which lead me to this declaration: It’s summertime!  Now, go fix yourself a dang quesadilla.  (name that movie)
