February Trip to Monterrey

May 24th, 2010 Classmate Blogs No comments

This trip was not on a whim and was actually planned long before the Utah trip that preceded it. We like to travel as these posts will attest. We had originally planned to go Thursday through Saturday, but since the youth snow/sledding trip rescheduled date was the Saturday we were supposed to be in Monterrey, Matt chivalrously called the hotel and shifted our trip up a day and we left on Wednesday. It seems so simple when I condense it like that but it really was a huge ordeal and I was quite stressed. With the switch we got home on Friday night. Men’s simple thought processes are so helpful at times.

The first full day we were there, Thursday, was beautiful weather. We first drove the famous 17-mile drive of the coast. It is amazing coastline, don’t get me wrong, but I felt like I had such high expectations that I was a bit disappointed. Nonetheless, it was fun and I am glad to say that I did the drive.

Afterward, we went to the huge park in the city center called Dennis the Menace park. It was awesome. If only Todd had been walking by then. It would have been a blast for him. Matt really enjoyed himself as you can imagine.

For those parents out there you can relate who drastically your pace changes on vacations when you have children. This was the point in the day when Matt really wanted to go to beach since it had turned out to be such a nice day. What he didn’t realize was that it was high time for his son’s nap. So we went back to the hotel and let Todd take a very long three hour nap. By the time he was done it was dark and dinnertime. So to lighten Matt’s spirits and disappointment we went to go get swim diapers so we could all go swimming. It was in the box of diapers we picked up these beauties.

Our last day we went to the famous Monterrey Bay Aquarium. It was amazing, but unfortunately this was the only picture we have to show for it. I am not even sure what this picture is of. A shark? Our plans to take pictures outside were foiled when we came out and it was raining.

Thanks for a great trip Matt!

Embracing the Snow

March 14th, 2010 Classmate Blogs No comments

There was a snow storm on Saturday and to be honest I wasn’t very happy about it. I’ve had enough of this winter! But we embraced the snow thanks to our friends, the Birds. They invited us to go sledding with them and we had such a fun time. Millcreek Canyon is home to me and to see it with it’s winter coat was very serene. The boys LOVED every minute of being outside… that is until they got cold.
I brought my little camcorder, it has a mind of it’s own and only likes to go into focus about 50% of the time, if that. So, just a warning, we all look like fuzzy blobs! Hope you all had a lovely weekend :)

Snowmen and Moose!

March 8th, 2010 Classmate Blogs No comments

Yes folks, it is that time of year again, the time where I drag my hubby up the canyon to look for Moose! Yes, he grew up in Park City and had families of Moose living in his backyard so he thinks this is absolutely ridiculous but I think it is super fun! Here are two we saw on Saturday!

And here are two I saw with my dad last week on a short trip up Parleys.

I am happy that I have a cute hubby who likes to come home on his lunch break to hurry and build a snowman with Lance. I absolutely despise the cold – yes living in California and Arizona for four years did that to me – so I am happy Speen likes to play in the snow with the Goose! This snowman is from the short storm we had last week.

And this is the 9 foot snowman Speen and Lance built on Saturday in 50 degree weather! It was hilarious, it took up all the snow from our yard and by the end of the day all the snow on our entire street had melted and then you see this 9 foot snowman, it was pretty sweet!
Shows how big it was next to little Tallie!

And finally Speen and Lance showing their excitement over their creation!

Good work boys!

The Amazing Date: Part 1

November 22nd, 2009 Classmate Blogs No comments

So the Amazing Date happened this past weekend. And there are so many ridiculous things I could blog about I honestly don’t even know how to gather my thoughts. Seriously, I should have brought a notepad to take scrupulous notes on the level of entertainment that was achieved this Saturday night.

The entire group of 200 single people all had a meet at an office building where we mingled, listened to the boring “date doctor” and then have the most awkward pairing situation of our lives.

First off, I absolutely loved how “done up” everyone was. It was lovely. 200 of my closest friends all looking and smelling good hoping beyond hope that they end up on a date with their #1. Oh, and if they didn’t want to make this whole date even more awkward, they (the creators of the group) decided that they would crown a King and Queen of the Amazing Date. The male and female that had the most people put them in their “top ten” were crowned. Seriously. Ridiculous. I kind of felt like I was back in high school again.

The “Date Doctor” did make a few good points. But her delivery could have used some serious work. What I took away from her is that I shouldn’t judge so quickly. Yes lady, I know that. I am working on it. I didn’t need you to tell me that. I have my mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, great-aunt, second cousin, younger brother, dad, coworker and friends all telling me that. I think we got it covered.

Anyway, so we didn’t find out who we were being set up with until after the mingling and date doctor shenanigans. The anticipation was killing me. Seriously, just tell me who I am going out with. It was a little bit like Christmas morning.

And so, the way they told us who we were going out with was by calling your name and your dates name over the microphone and making you walk out of the room together. Yes, sufficiently awkward.

Want to know what was even more awkward? They got my name mixed up with someone else’s so for about 3 minutes I didn’t think I had a date.

I may or may not have sent the following text messages to my friend Nicole:

Um, they don’t have a date for me. This is the saddest day of my life.

which was followed two minutes later by this:

False alarm. They found him. I’m not going to kill myself.

And so, stay tuned for the actual date story. It’s a good one. You won’t be disappointed.

My GoOsE!

October 14th, 2009 Classmate Blogs No comments

It’s only been a week, but the hardest thing about having two kids is not being able to give Lance 100% of my attention. Yesterday I took the goose to Wheeler Farm for some one on one time. Probably not the smartest thing, cause I was so sore that night, but definitely worth it to spend time with Lance.

“Two thumbs up!” - That is what Lance thought of spending the day with mommy!

Last Saturday Spence took Lance on a hike up in the beautiful mountains.

We LOVE the goose!

“Greg was paralyzed in a snowboarding accident 5 years ago. In the last year, he has been canceled off insurance and and bills were backdated 3 years to marriage (100% of the bills he has accrued in that time is in the millions). He has had 3 surgeries on a pressure sore in the last year. The first two the Dr. didn’t get the bone infection he had so it worsened. When we went back to her she said he will die without this because its infected to the bone but wouldn’t do the surgery because we didn’t have medical insurance. He he extremely sick and is not getting good care due to lack of medical coverage. For his medication alone for the infection is 180$ a day and he needs it everyday for 8 weeks. We are doing a benefit concert for him to raise money to pay his surgeon and help him recover! Also this will be non profit in 6 months and money will then go to helping others like him that are hard working Americans who are denied by Medicaid. We saw Greg come close to dying because we couldn’t get help till he was on his death bed, or paid half down. We do not want others to have to go through this if we can help it. Please come support the cause and have fun doing it. There is a raffle with tons of sweet prizes, pizza, hot dogs, drinks, bounce houses, henna tattoos, cotton candy, snow cones. We have a live band Codi Jordan, we are also hoping to have two other live bands we have a promoter working on that still. Come support and make a difference!! check out our website www.righttolifefoundation.com please pass this on to all of your friends so we can spread the word!

Maddie”

Maddie is a really good friend of mine I met during Cosmetology school. Her husband has had many trials over the years. Maddie is such an amazing and giving person. It makes me sad to hear about all the hard things she has gone through the last 5 years. She called me a few weeks ago telling me about what Greg is now going through and what she is doing to help with the situation. She has also been on Glen Beck’s show trying to get this foundation started. She is trying to start a non-profit organization that will help other people out there in the same situation. I told Maddie that I would help get the word out. If you are not doing anything this Saturday, stop by. It looks like a lot of fun!
