Update on the Napa-ness

February 17th, 2010 Classmate Blogs No comments

Good news:

  • My husband arrives tomorrow for a four day weekend! I’m still buried in work, but we’re going to escape to the city to see that new Disney museum…
  • I checked another thing off my 101 in 1001 when I got my name in The Napa Valley Register as one of the people working on Beauty and the Beast. My amazing Aunt Carole was all over the article, so you should go check it out.
  • I also checked off my ten days of volunteer service. And I have the circle skirts to prove it!

Bad news:

  • I’m apparently operating in a world where dressing all of the chorus members up in costumes reminiscent of Easter eggs on acid is perfectly acceptable behavior.
  • Making a human-sized teapot is at the top of my least-favorite-things-on-Earth list.
  • Indulging in the local cuisine is doing nothing good for my waistline. I might need to buy an extra airplane seat for the ride home.

Hope all of your lives out in the real world are going swimmingly! I’ll report back again when the most important part of my day doesn’t involve making sure the skirts on the napkin kick line are properly fitted…

Chew anniversary

Bill and Bert Chew of Napa celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 6, 2009, at Bert and Bill’s home, with many friends and family.

They were engaged on New Year’s Eve, 1948. They were married at the Congregational Church in Oakland on Sept. 10, 1949. There were seven groomsmen and seven bridesmaids. The bridesmaids were dressed in pastel-colored dresses with matching hats. A good friend of the family made all the dresses, including Bert’s wedding dress. The material for the dresses was only a $1 per yard!

During the early years of their marriage, the couple lived in Oakland; Spokane, Wash., and Hayward. In July 1962, they moved to Napa.

Both love to spend time with their family. There were many happy times spent camping, fishing, visiting new places and enjoying friends and family.

Bert worked for Napa Valley Unified, retiring in 2003.

Bill was a Napa City Councilman for several terms and then a Napa County Supervisor for one term. He worked at Mare Island, retiring in 1981.

The couple’s children are Carole Toy of Napa, Diana and Lonnie Reed of Salt Lake City, Utah., and Darlene and Denis Evans of Petaluma. Grandchildren include Carly and Kyle Morgan, JW Toy, Randy Lane, Candice Reed, Stevie and John Kinnear, and angels Kellie Toy and Gary Lane.
