Day Two of Vegas officially started some time in the middle of the night while Jed and I were consuming low grade steak and talking about those things that you only talk about after 10+ years of friendship, but since the sun didn’t come up until much later, we’ll start there.
When I woke up on Day Two, Jed had already gotten up and gone to the gym. Less ambitious, I managed to get up to pee and then I spent the next 6 hours (no, really!!) laying in bed watching television. I watched a documentary about plastic surgery and then a special about a hospital mix-up and then I was so worn out with reality television that I caught a nice little nap. I’m going to be really good at being a senior citizen.

I finally peeled myself out of bed around 4:30 and Jed and I went through Take Two of getting ready for the wedding. I feel like everyone at the wedding actually got a little cheated because Jed and I got all dolled up on the first day and I did my makeup and my hair and everything, but on day two we were tired and smelled like that pizza we ordered in and ate in bed, so I sort of managed to get some eyeliner on and that was about it. I didn’t even put my heels on because my feet were blistered from walking the strip the previous night. Unshowered, overslept, quite rumpled…I resembled what you’re supposed to look like AFTER a really good wedding, not before.
This time we made it over to Caesar’s with not too much time to spare and, after an incident with a chocolate cookie that I will elaborate on later, we found the wedding almost underway in the palace gardens.
One of the themes of the wedding was butterflies, so each guest was handed a small lantern containing a live monarch butterfly to release during the ceremony. It’s the first time I’ve been given a live animal at a wedding and I have to admit that it was a little stressful, especially because I accidentally kicked the lantern over twice. Jed’s butterfly didn’t even fit in the lantern…its little wings were all bent and smooshed to get it in there. It definitely gave everyone something to talk about, though!

Kristen looked completely gorgeous. She was wearing a dress that our friend Sarah had made and, frustratingly, I didn’t take a single good picture of it because the gardens had a no photography policy. (I HATE THAT!) I tried to sneak a photo, but it’s too blurry to see how stunning the bride looked. The ceremony was short and sweet and involved references to beer and the wedding night and other things Kyle and I forgot to reference during our own. And then they were married and so happy and I teared up again, like I apparently do at everyone’s wedding but my own.

After the wedding, the guests climbed into the party bus, opened up the champagne, and headed out to the Vegas sign for a group picture. It was dark by the time we got out there, so I have no idea if the photos actually turned out, but I had never been out to the sign before, so that was fun anyway.

After the sign, the bus took us out to Red Rock, which is this lovely casino out in the middle of nowhere. The reception was held at Cabo, in this amazing room that had large open windows which let in the desert night air. The decor was lovely, Kristen looked incredible in her reception gown, and the food was positively to die for!

One of the highlights of the reception was the blessing. I don’t think I can fully do it justice, but I can paraphrase:
“Uh, hi…Kristen and Chris asked me to give the blessing yesterday, so…um…God…and Jesus and all that, too, just to get it out there…yeah, I’ve known Chris a long time…we used to work together and we always quoted Caddyshack…so, uh, (insert Caddyshack quote)…and, uh, (insert Caddyshack quote)…no, but really, this is our first trip to Vegas and we’re having a good time…I was kind of hung over this morning but now I feel great and the food looks really good, so let’s eat.”
(from somewhere else in the room) “Amen!”

We ate and talked and ate and talked and then it was time to get into the limos and head back. Going through Vegas in a party limo while listening to top 40 dance mixes and drinking cocktails was just a little too Vegas for me, so I sort of conked out for most of the ride. I guess I’m really just not the party limo type!

And then we were out on the bright streets of Vegas again, but Jed and I just wanted to go home so we caught a cab and headed back to the hotel. As a side note, free of embarassment because he never checks my blog, can I just tell you how much I love Jed? I would have had 2% of the fun I had if he hadn’t been there and when we were riding back to the hotel I just kept thinking about what a good time I always have when we’re together. So cheesy, I know, but it’s the truth. Jed would totally be the person I could call if I woke up and there was a dead body in the room because he’d help me get rid of it AND he’d turn it into a really funny story.

Kristen and Chris, you’re amazing! I had a great time and I’m so happy for you guys and I miss you already!
